BOULDER, Colo. - Jim Beam Bourbon Soaked Sunflower Seeds and Beef Jerky were named as the official seeds and jerky of the Toledo Mud Hens, 2005 winner of the International League Governors' Cup for Triple-A Baseball and Detroit Tigers affiliate.
"Sunflower seeds and baseball go hand in hand. Matching the highest quality and best tasting seeds and jerky to America's top Triple-A Baseball team is the perfect fit," said Justin Havlick, president and CEO of Thanasi Foods. "We're pleased to introduce Toledo fans to our products and expect baseball fans all over the country will soon be able to enjoy our snacks while cheering for their favorite team."
Starting opening day, April 6, the complete line-up of Jim Beam snack foods will be available to all Mud Hens and visiting team players for every home game. In addition, the seeds and jerky will be available at concession stands at Fifth Third Field.
"We are very excited to bring this new product to our fans at Fifth Third Field. Seeds and baseball go hand-in-hand and this partnership is a great fit," said Jason Griffin, director of public relations and broadcaster.
Thanasi Foods' award-winning Jim Beam snack food line consists of the Original, Barbeque and Jalapeno Sunflower Seeds and Jim Beam Original, Peppered, and Barbeque Beef Jerky.
The Toledo Mud Hens are coming off one of their best seasons ever. In 2005, the Mud Hens won the International League West Division with an 89-55 record and the Governors' Cup for the first time since 1967. The Mud Hens also broke a three-year-old attendance record, attracting 556,995 fans during the regular season. In addition, Baseball America named Toledo the top team in Triple-A Baseball (out of 30 teams).
Thanasi Foods developed Jim Beam Kentucky Bourbon Soaked Sunflower Seeds and Beef Jerky using Jim Beam bourbon, the world's No. 1 bourbon, as a primary flavor component. The products are the first to bring the flavor of Jim Beam to the premium snack segment.
The Jim Beam Original Kentucky Bourbon snacks are soaked in Jim Beam in order to impart the unmistakable flavor of quality bourbon, giving the snacks a slightly-sweet and smoky flavor cue. While the world's No. 1 bourbon is a primary flavor component for the product, Jim Beam provides only a flavor element. Much like cooking with wine, there is virtually no remaining alcohol content in the sunflower seeds or jerky.
